The RISSB has produced a draft Code of Practice for Accessible Rail which is now available for the first round (of two) of public consultation.
This Code of Practice aims to translate the intent of the relevant legislation/regulations/standards relating to providing accessible public transport for the rail industry. By implementing this Code of Practice for its stations and/or rollingstock, a rail organisation will be deemed to comply with the intent of the relevant legislation and standards.
The Code of Practice will be available for its first round of public consultation for 6 weeks on the RISSB website, starting on Monday 15 March 2010 and ending on COB Monday 26 April 2010. Any person wishing to make relevant comment should download the complete Code of Practice from the Operations portion of the RISSB products matrix at www.rissb.com.au and fill out the comments sheet, submitting it to Alex Borodin, Manager Operations and Safety RISSB at aborodin@rissb.com.au. All comments must be accompanied with appropriate suggestions as to how to appropriately modify the text of the Code to meet the intent of the comment.
