The Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) is wholly owned by the ARA and is responsible for development and management of the rail industry standards, rules, codes of practice and guidelines, all of which have national application.

The RISSB is accredited by Standards Australia as a Standards Development Organisation, and all new standards commenced by RISSB in 2007/2008 will be published as Australian Standards.

While the Australian Code of Practice (ACOP) is the focus of RISSB’s development activities, the RISSB could also be called upon to undertake other development activities required by the Rail Industry such as National Rail Safety Week.
