Current Projects

The RISSB actively participates in a number of railway level crossing projects. Current projects include but are not limited to:

  • National Rail Safety Week – the RISSB will continue coordinating Australian and New Zealand rail operators, track owners and government agencies who participate in this national initiative to educate communities in rail safety.
  • Driver licence standardisation – the RISSB will work with road authorities to ensure driver licence examinations always include railway level crossing questions.
  • TrackSAFE Foundation –  a new rail safety foundation has now been stood up for more information vist www.tracksafe foundation.com.au
  • School education materials – the RISSB will create education materials to educate primary school students in railway level crossing safety to be included in the national curriculum.
  • Advocacy – the RISSB will continue advocating for State, Territory and Federal government to adopt nationally consistent railway level crossing measures. We will also advocate for the elimination of railway level crossings through closures, promoting grade separation, and enough is enough: no more level crossings.
  • Research – the RISSB actively participates in railway level crossing research projects conducted by the Cooperative Research Centre for Rail Innovation.
