CALL FOR DEVELOPMENT GROUP MEMBERS –AS 7460 OPERATION OF REMOTELY PILOTED AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS (DRONES) ON THE RAIL NETWORK
The Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) is seeking nominations from people to join a Development Group to develop a new Australian Standard – AS 7460 Operation of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (Drones) on the Rail Network.
The use of drones within the rail industry is rapidly increasing with trials being undertaken to make best use of this technology. Although there are governing requirements for drones in general, there are no specific requirements for their use within the rail corridor/environment.
This Australian Standard will provide the rail industry with a set of requirements which will ensure the current use of remotely piloted aircraft systems is recognised and assists in the evolving introduction and future use of such systems. This Standard will address accredited rail operator usage of drone technology for security, infrastructure inspections, trespasser locating, carrying payload and potential for rapid response capability. The current regulation is set by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) with no exceptions for drones operating in a rail environment.
How to contribute
Stakeholders and interested parties are invited to submit nominations for subject matter experts to join this Development Group to contribute to the overall depth and quality of the Standard.
