Compliance Audit of AS 7531
Railway Rolling Stock Lighting and Visibility
Media frequently addresses train visibility issues in reference to level crossings. An audit was conducted to determine Industry compliance with the lighting and visibility standard and quantify the Industry’s commitment to measures that improve level crossing safety.
The audit demonstrates that the majority of the Rail Industry is compliant with the Standards. Compliance levels and thus train visibility will increase as routine maintenance is conducted and new rolling stock are purchased.
Locomotives, infrastructure maintenance, freight and passenger rolling stock from mainstream and Association of Tourist and Heritage Rail in Australia (ATHRA) operators were included in this national review.
The RISSB developed and published the Railway Rolling Stock Lighting and Visibility Standard in June 2006, republishing in December 2007.
The Standard is available on the RISSB website.
