BNSF’s Arkansas Intermodal Facility Reopens
This facility is located 27 miles northwest of the Class I railroad’s Memphis Intermodal Hub. BNSF reported this week that all international intermodal shipments originating at the Pier T Terminal of the Port of Long Beach, Calif., are now terminating at the Harvard facility.
Additional origination locations and train starts are being evaluated, according to BNSF.
BNSF President and CEO Katie Farmer was among the seven Class I chief executives who responded recently to the Surface Transportation Board inquiry on intermodal congestion. For a technical report on all responses, read “Why STB’s Inquiry Is a Public Service to Intermodal Shippers,” by Railway Age Contributing Editor Jim Blaze.
In related news, Norfolk Southern on Aug. 13 reported that it will reopen its intermodal terminal in Greencastle, Pa., this September to “help ease supply-chain congestion that has slowed the flow of commerce across all modes of the U.S. transportation sector.”
