Why bearings fail and how to detect failures

After a period of time, the appearance and performance of precisely-made bearings can change in service due to less-than-ideal operating conditions, which can result in bearing damage, reduced service life and sometimes premature bearing failure. Condition monitoring specialist SKF has released a white paper which identifies six common failure modes and describes a range of available systems that detect anomalies before they develop into failures.
