AS 7471 Australian Rail – Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Minimum Requirements
The closing date for nominations – Tuesday 30 September 2025
The Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) is seeking nominations to join a Development Group to review AS 7471 Australian Rail – Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Minimum Requirements.
How will this help the rail industry?
PPE is crucial for safeguarding rail safety workers from workplace hazards, preventing injuries and illnesses, and ensuring compliance with an RTO’s rail safety requirements.
AS 7471 outlines the minimum requirements for PPE when accessing the rail corridor. PPE acts as a barrier against physical, chemical, and biological hazards, promoting a safer and more productive work environment.
About
PPE includes any personal clothing or equipment that is used to minimize risk to a person’s health and safety when accessing railway tracks and other areas including yards, workshops and sidings.
This review of AS 7471 will consider the analysis of all current PPE requirements against any new known requirements within the Australian rail industry.
Time commitment
Development Group membership is voluntary and requires the support of your organisation to attend and contribute. There will be 4-6 meetings held between October 2025 and April 2026. Further information on the responsibilities of a Development Group member can be obtained from the RISSB Website.
