AS 7508 Track Forces and Stresses

The closing date for nominations – Monday 27 October 2025

The Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) is seeking nominations to join a Development Group to review AS 7508 Track Forces and Stresses.

How will this help the rail industry?

Through consistent adoption by RTOs of the technical requirements of AS 7508, in conjunction with AS 7630, the Australian rail network would take significant strides towards an interoperable and harmonised rail system.

Benefits include productivity gains through increased freight and passenger movement on the rail network. This Standard helps drive efficiencies in procurement, design, construction and maintenance processes relating to both rolling stock and track infrastructure.

About

This Standard outlines the requirements for managing the risks associated with the accelerated degradation of track infrastructure and the derailment of rolling stock.

The review of AS 7508 will ensure alignment with AS 7630 Track Classification and will significantly enable the streamlining of the rolling stock registration project.

Time commitment

Development Group membership is voluntary and requires the support of your organisation to attend and contribute. A minimum of half a day per month time commitment will be required between October 2025 and August 2026. Further information on the responsibilities of a Development Group member can be obtained from the RISSB Website.

How to contribute

Stakeholders and interested parties are invited to submit nominations for Subject Matter Experts to join this Development Group to contribute to the overall depth and quality of the product.
