The Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) is seeking nominations to join a Development Group to review AS 7510.3 Braking Systems –Multiple Unit Passenger.
How will this help the rail industry?
Multiple unit passenger trains are the core form of rail transportation moving people around and through metropolitan and outer urban areas. The ability to control speed and stop is an important safety requirement.
AS7510.3 aims to ensure that multiple unit passenger trains can operate safely in accordance with the network requirements.
About
AS 7510.3 is applicable to multiple unit passenger trains that is new, substantially modified or that is to operate in a network in which it has not previously operated. The Standard defines requirements for the design, manufacture, testing and in-service maintenance of multiple unit passenger rolling stock brake systems.
AS 7510.3 was originally published in 2014, and this review will analyse the current requirements defined, the latest changes and advancements in vehicle braking systems, apply learnings (where applicable) for accidents/incidents and align with the other RISSB braking Standards and Codes of Practice.
Time commitment
Development Group membership is voluntary and requires the support of your organisation to attend and contribute. A minimum of half a day per month time commitment will be required between October 2025 and May 2026. Stakeholders and interested parties are invited to submit nominations for Subject Matter Experts to join this Development Group to contribute to the overall depth and quality of the product.
