The AS 7520.3 Body Structural Requirements – Passenger draft is now open for Public Consultation.

How this product helps the rail industry 

This Standard aims to minimise risks to train crew and members of the general public in the event of collisions or derailments.

AS 7520.3 describes the requirements for the structural strength of railway passenger rolling stock, which prescribe the minimum structural integrity level of the vehicle bodies to ensure safe performance under normal operating conditions and extreme operating conditions. It is applicable to passenger rolling stock and crew cars.

Significant changes to passenger vehicle structural requirements and crashworthiness have occurred since this Standard was last published.

This review of AS 7520.3 has analysed and incorporated changes associated with technological improvements, contemporary international standards, safety, lessons learned from incidents/accidents and/or engineering improvements.

The review has considered harmonisation and interoperability requirements and well as whole of life asset management frameworks as appropriate.
