AS 7529.4 Fire Safety Track Machines

The closing date for nominations – Friday 31 October 2025

The Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) is seeking nominations to join a Development Group to review AS 7529.4 Fire Safety Track Machines.

How will this help the rail industry?

This Standard will help minimise the fire risk to track machine occupants, as well as the risks that a fire on track machines may pose to other users on the network.

Fire safety is a key issue for all railway operations, and it is essential that all rail vehicles are designed and constructed to comply with fire safety standards.

About

As a result of the emergence of new technologies, such as hydrogen and battery systems, AS 7529.4 will be reviewed and updated to ensure that the requirements for fire safety when these systems are used are specified.

The standard covers the design, construction and maintenance of track machines. It applies to both the design and construction of new track machines and the maintenance, modification and refurbishment of existing track machines.

Time commitment

Development Group membership is voluntary and requires the support of your organisation to attend and contribute. A minimum of half a day per month time commitment will be required between November 2025 and March 2026. Further information on the responsibilities of a Development Group member can be obtained from the RISSB Website.
