AS 7641 Rail Gauge Corner Lubrication Management
The closing date for nominations – Wednesday 7 January 2026
The Australian Rail Industry Standards Organisation (ARISO) is seeking nominations experts in rail management and lubrication materials to join a Development Group to review AS 7641 Rail Gauge Corner Lubrication Management.
How will this help the rail industry?
Through consistent application of the requirements in this Standard, incidents caused by wheel–rail interface issues associated with friction or lubrication can be reduced. The consistent and strategic application of lubrication at the wheel–rail interface will also drive reductions in reactive maintenance and incident costs while optimising asset life.
This approach supports reduced high rail gauge face wear, lower wheel flange wear, reduced risk of wheel climb on high rails, decreased initiation of rolling contact fatigue (RCF) on the high rail gauge corner, lower rail grinding maintenance requirements on the high rail, reduced wheel/rail noise, and reduced energy consumption (fuel or electrical power) by trains.
About
This Standard defines the requirements for Rail Infrastructure Managers (RIM) to manage friction and noise of the wheel/rail interface. Through the adoption and application of the requirements in this Standard RIMs could expect to see extended rail asset life and Rolling Stock Operators (RSO) in turn would expect to see a greater longevity of wheel assets.
Time commitment
Development Group membership is voluntary and requires the support of your organisation to attend and contribute. A minimum of half a day per month time commitment will be required between January 2026 and September 2026. Further information on the responsibilities of a Development Group member can be obtained from the our website.
How to contribute
Stakeholders and interested parties are invited to submit nominations for rail industry experts to join this Development Group to contribute to the overall depth and quality of the product.
