AS 7645 Rail Corridor Management

The closing date for comments – Monday 6 October 2025

The AS 7645 Rail Corridor Management draft is now open for Public Consultation.

How this product helps the rail industry

AS 7645 Rail Corridor Management specifies the requirements for Rail Infrastructure Managers (RIMs) to manage vegetation hazards within the rail corridor including hazards related to noxious weeds, pests and pathogens.

The standard also provides guidance on fire prevention within the rail corridor through the development of a fire control plan.

About

Appropriate fire prevention controls and noxious weed management can provide the habitat connectivity needed to maintain viable populations of native species within the rail corridor. This review examined and addressed:

  • The requirements to ensure that fire prevention and control risks are managed with respect to the type and extent of fuel present in the rail corridor.
  • The requirement to adopt a risk based approach for the management of vegetation hazards within the rail corridor.
  • Guidance on developing systems and processes to meet legal obligations related to biodiversity.
