AS 7662 25kV AC Rail Traction Systems. Part 1: General requirements
The closing date for comments – Friday 25 July 2025
The AS 7662 25kV AC Rail Traction Systems. Part 1: General requirements draft is now open for Public Consultation.
How this product helps the rail industry
This new Standard will harmonise 25kV AC Standards for the rail industry, leading to improved safety, interoperability, and cost outcomes.
The use of 25 kV AC traction power systems in Australia is increasing, with recent installations in Sydney and Melbourne. These construction projects typically develop their project-specific standards, leading to a fragmented approach across different projects. This fragmentation and the absence of national standards for 25kV AC electrification can create risks and challenges for the operators of these networks.
About
The objective of this Standard is to provide the Australian rail industry with a set of recommended requirements for the traction power system and includes the interface requirements with other rail systems.
The standard addresses the requirements of the traction power system for the use of designers, contractors and Rail Infrastructure Managers.
The use of this standard will allow a uniform approach to be applied to the design, installation, testing and commissioning, operation and asset management of traction power supply systems.
