AS 7722 EMC Management

The closing date for nominations – Tuesday 27 May 2025

The Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) is seeking nominations to join a Development Group to review AS 7722 EMC Management.

How will this help the rail industry?

The effective management of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) will eliminate or reduce harm to humans through the effective analysis and monitoring of non-ionizing radiation levels. EMC emissions must remain in safe limits at all times. The standard will assist Rail Transport Operators (RTOs) in managing and controlling EMC emission and compatibility risks.

Adoption of AS 7722 EMC Management will assist RTOs to apply harmonised management of EMC risks to meet their legal and regulatory obligations.

EMC management is a legal requirement for RTOs engaged in the provision of engineering services over the full asset lifecycle for the whole railway.

About

EMC management is the process of measuring and assessing the strength of electromagnetic fields within the operating environment. AS 7722 EMC Management is applicable to railway engineering activities and products that require management of EMC.

The Standard is undergoing a review to consider new and existing EMC risks within a railway operating environment to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and safety requirements.

Time commitment

Development Group membership is voluntary and requires the support of your organisation to attend and contribute. There will be 6-8 meetings held between June and December 2025. Further information on the responsibilities of a Development Group member can be obtained from the RISSB Website.
