Code of Practice Loading of Rail Freight

The Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) is seeking nominations to join a Development Group to review Code of Practice Loading of Rail Freight.

How will this help the rail industry? 

Through ensuring the requirements of rail freight loading are suitable and adopted by Rolling Stock Operators (RSO) there should be a reduction in rail freight loading incidents which can impact multiple organisations and costly.

This Code of Practice provides a significant level of uniformity in loading practices and procedures, providing a greater level of confidence and acceptance of loads by Rail Transport Operators (RTO).

About

In support of the national focus on increasing productivity and safety RISSB is reviewing this important Code which supports the efficient and safe practices for loading of freight at terminals and freight logistics facilities.

This review will focus on alignment to recently updated reference documents, consider any loading related safety incidents and changes in industry regulation.

Time commitment

Development Group membership is voluntary and requires the support of your organisation to attend and contribute. A minimum of half a day per month time commitment will be required between November 2025 and August 2026. Stakeholders and interested parties are invited to submit nominations for Subject Matter Experts to join this Development Group to contribute to the overall depth and quality of the product.
