Strategic partnership enhances rail safety training in South Australia

RISSB was proud to partner with Public Transport South Australia to deliver a highly successful Undertake a Derailment Investigations course at the Dry Creek facility – bringing together experts from across the rail sector for three days of immersive, hands-on learning.

With participants attending from across Australia and New Zealand – including representatives from Public Transport South Australia, Sydney Trains, V/Line, and KiwiRail – the course underscored the growing demand for high-quality, nationally accredited training that supports continuous improvement in rail safety and operational excellence.

The course, which culminates in a Nationally Accredited Training Certificate upon successful completion, combined interactive learning with practical application. Engineers and investigators worked side by side to analyse and respond to a realistic derailment scenario, strengthening critical thinking, collaboration, and technical investigation skills.

Mohit Sareen, Director of Rail Operations at Public Transport SA noted the importance of inter-agency and cross-jurisdictional collaboration.

“True partnerships provide win-win value, and our staff benefitted greatly from this three-day training,” said Sareen.

“The course aligns with our commitment to a safe and reliable rail system operating in public hands. Thank you to everyone involved for making this training a success,” he said.

This successful partnership demonstrates what can be achieved when national organisations like RISSB collaborate with state-based operators to enhance safety outcomes and build a shared culture of learning. The course is part of a broader vision to elevate capability and safety across the rail industry.
