Strengthening standards through site visit insights
Recently Cris Fitzhardinge and Jodie Matheson, our Perth-based team members toured the MetroNet project in Western Australia, learning about the Victoria Park to Beckenham section of the Armadale line which was rebuilt to remove six high risk level crossings to create a safer network.
RISSB supports these projects which provide greater public transport options while increasing safety outcomes through the removal of high-risk road and pedestrian crossings.
Seeing operations firsthand allows our Standards Development Managers to better understand real-world conditions, bridging the gap b
etween technical requirements and the realities of day-to-day rail operations.
These visits also create opportunities to engage directly with operators and frontline workers, ensuring their insights shape the standards. The result will be documents that are grounded in operational practice, strengthening safety, efficiency, and industry confidence.
As such, site visits play a vital role in developing rail standards that are practical and effective.
We would like to thank Murray Rowe, Operations Manager, and Brett Holloway, Driver from Transperth Train Operations for providing RISSB an opportunity to see the fantastic work being done to improve safety and public transport in WA.
