Call for Development Group Members – AS 7522 – Access and Egress – Review

The closing date for nominations – Wednesday 24 July 2024.

The Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) is seeking nominations from industry representatives and subject matter experts to review RISSB Australian Standard 7522 – Access and Egress.

How will this product help the rail industry?

Your contribution to the review of this Standard will help advise the rail industry on the latest changes associated with technological improvements, international standards, safety and/or engineering improvements.

AS 7522 describes requirements for access and egress of workers and passengers on locomotives, freight, passenger, and infrastructure maintenance rolling stock. The main purpose of the requirements are to provide safe, efficient, equitable and dignified access and egress, and to minimize risks to passengers and workers associated with access and egress, emergency evacuations, and requirements for people with disabilities.

RISSB is undertaking this review as a proactive safety action identified by the ATSB Report into the Derailment of XPT Passenger Train ST23 at Wallen, Victoria in 2020.
