Call for Development Group Members – New Standard AS 7495: Rolling Stock Communications Equipment
The Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) is seeking nominations from people to join a Development Group to assist in the creation of a new Australian Standard® – AS 7495: Rolling Stock Communications Equipment.
This review is part of RISSB’s obligations as a registered standards development organisation to ensure our products maintain their relevancy for the Australian rail industry.
About
The purpose of this Standard is to support the National Rail Action Plan objectives of interoperability, harmonisation and increasing critical skills and training needs.
This Standard shall identify different types of communications equipment used on rolling stock and define the high level functional requirements and performance-based outcomes for the equipment, while also considering the asset lifecycle requirements. The requirements shall support adoption of advancing technologies in communications.
The technical definition and standardisation of key equipment shall support the increase of onshore skills development and capability in the design, manufacture and maintenance of these systems. Note that the definition of communications equipment utilised on rolling stock is not limited to train radio.
This Standard shall consider all types of rolling stock communications systems including but not limited to; Train Operating Systems; Passenger Information Systems; passenger wifi; hearing loops; vehicle to vehicle communications and off train interfaces.
How to contribute
Stakeholders and interested parties are invited to submit nominations for subject matter experts to join this Development Group to contribute to the overall depth and quality of the product.
Development Group membership is voluntary and requires the support of your organisation to attend and contribute. There will be a minimum of 6 meetings held between Dec 2023 and June 2024. These will be conducted via video conference.
