RISSB Announces New Safety Awards Program

RISSB announces the launch of its new awards program, the RISSB Rail Safety Awards, which recognise and celebrate individual and company safety achievements in the rail industry.

The inaugural awards seek to reward individuals and organisations with a strong commitment to safety, and have demonstrated diversity, inclusion, excellence and innovation for the betterment of rail within the past 12 months.

Entry is open to open to any individual working in the rail industry and organisation operating in, or affiliated with, rail in Australia and New Zealand.

RISSB CEO Deborah Spring said that the new awards would offer businesses right across the rail industry the opportunity to celebrate the valuable contributions of individuals and teams, and give those making a difference to the rail community the visibility and recognition they so richly deserve.

“There are so many passionate, dedicated and innovative people working in the rail industry right now and we want to honour those making a difference to their organisation and the broader rail industry with their safety initiatives,” she said.

“These awards reflect our commitment to enable national safety conversations and reward those people and organisations that have put safety and people first. It doesn’t matter if you are a major rail transport operator with hundreds of kilometres of track or a small business operating in regional Australia, all businesses irrespective of size and stature are encouraged to put forward a nomination. This is your time to shine.”

This year submissions are being accepted across five award categories:

  • Safety Leadership Program/Initiative
  • Wellbeing Program Incorporating Mental Health
  • Industry Safety Professional of the Year
  • Safety Initiative by a Young Rail Employee (Under 30)
  • Worker Improvement Outcome

Nominations close on Monday, 18 April and the winners will be announced during the 2022 Rail Safety Conference dinner to be held in Melbourne on 3 May 2022.
