Click here Anniversary Edition 46, December 2023 A message from our Chair Over the last 20 years, RISSB has grown to be a key player, becoming recognised as the trusted and respected partner in industry. This has made RISSB a formidable force, allowing us to make the Australian and New Zealand rail industry safer and more productive. RISSB has become the glue for industry. We bring together government, academia, and businesses for the betterment of the rail industry. I feel immense pride in what RISSB has accomplished over the last 20 years. Not just because of the products we have produced for industry, but also the contribution of our other services such as our MasterClass Webinars, Horizons Program, industry forums and training courses. I am excited to say that RISSB is firmly focused on the future. We are stepping up to tackle the harder issues facing the rail industry, and plan to make a growing impact. Deborah Spring A special year for RISSB!2023 has been a special year for RISSB. In 2003 we started out as the Code Management Company, before becoming RISSB in 2007, then we became a stand alone entity with our own constitution and Board in 2015. RISSB is now 20 years old, a milestone we have celebrated this year with our stakeholders and the rail industry broadly. We want to take this opportunity to thank industry and all our members for their support of RISSB this past year, and over the last 20 years. What we have achievedOver the last 20 years, RISSB has established an exceptional and structured network of both national and international industry experts. This network actively participates in the collaborative development of our products, identifies industry best practice, and ensures prompt knowledge transfer from incidents - literally industry's partner in co-regulation! A new strategic directionRISSB has spent the last year developing our new 2024–2030 Strategic Plan. The foundation of the strategy has been formed by seeking the views of industry leaders on the future direction of RISSB. It comes at a time when there is an increasing focus by industry and governments on resolving long-standing interoperability and harmonisation challenges to unlock productivity and de-carbonisation opportunities. Thankyou from our CEO It’s great to be able to reflect at this time of year of our achievements and contributions to industry and government, and the changing emphasis of the work we do. We’ve continued to provide products to the National Transport Commission (NTC) National Rail Action Plan (NRAP), with now an increased focus on the adoption of these products by government jurisdictions. We’ve developed a new process for the way in which our annual Work Plan is pulled together, now drawing upon a much broader range of inputs to ensure we’re working on industry’s most pressing issues. And our new strategy includes RISSB having an increased focus on the adoption and benefit realisation of our products – a recognition that our success relies not only on producing good products for industry, but also that those products are implemented and the benefit imbedded in operations. And finally, a greater recognition of all of our industry subject matter experts who come together via our Standing Committees, our Development Groups, and our Management Groups that cover various industry disciplines – collectively now known as “The RISSB Network” – a unique network of industry’s subject matter experts in the engineering, safety and operating disciplines. These valuable resources have historically come together to produce our Standards, Codes and Guidelines, and our new strategy plans to better connect, align and coordinate these valuable resources in order for RISSB to more effectively and efficiently be “Industry’s partner in co-regulation”. Thank you everyone one who has assisted in our work this year, those who have been frank and fearless in providing input into our new strategy, and I wish you all a safe and merry Christmas, a prosperous and fulfilling New Year, and we look forward to working with you all again in 2024! Damien White RISSB – Industry’s Partner in Co-Regulation
