RISSB Signs New Five-Year Memorandum of Understanding with Australian Governments

RISSB has signed a new five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Australian and State Governments.

Ratified in October, the new MoU sets out a framework for continued co-operation between RISSB and the Transport and Infrastructure Senior Officials Committee (TISOC) to progress rail operational and safety reform and promote harmonisation and interoperability of rail standards.

It also outlines arrangements for the provision of government funding and RISSB’s obligations to TISOC, as a recipient of government funding in relation to its product prioritisation, delivery and promotion of the Australian Code of Practice and other products published by RISSB.

Included in the new MoU is a commitment by Australian Governments to encourage industry to contribute safety incident data to support the Australian Rail Risk Model (ARRM).

RISSB Chief Executive Officer, Mr Paul Daly, said the revised MoU followed the most significant review of its funding arrangements since RISSB’s inception.

“From an operational perspective, there have been many significant internal changes over the past five years. We’ve improved our business processes, increased our engagement with the rail industry and governments, streamlined our prioritisation process, and delivered an unprecedented number of new products.

“The new MoU better reflects RISSB’s commitment to deliver products during a time when the rail industry is seeking even greater operational efficiencies whilst maintaining its high levels of safety,” he said.

This MoU replaces the existing MoU and will run for the next five years.
