AS 7520.2 Railway Rolling Stock – Body Structural Requirements – Part 2: Freight Rolling Stock – Review

The closing date for nominations – Tuesday 11 March 2025

The Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) is seeking nominations to join a Development Group to review the AS 7520.2 Railway Rolling Stock – Body Structural Requirements – Part 2: Freight Rolling Stock.

How will this help the rail industry?

The structural design, manufacture and ongoing maintenance is essential for ensuring a long asset life of freight rolling stock, minimising fatigue and unplanned maintenance issues. AS7520.2 prescribes the minimum structural integrity levels of the freight vehicle body to ensure safe performance under normal operating conditions and extreme operating conditions.

The review of AS 7520.2 will analyse the latest changes and advancements in freight vehicle design, apply learnings (where applicable) from accidents/incidents and align with the other RISSB Standards.

About

AS 7520.2 is applicable to new and modified freight rolling stock. The Standard defines requirements for the design, manufacture, testing and in-service maintenance of freight rolling stock including structural ratings, proof loads, fatigue analysis and specialised equipment attached to the rolling stock.

AS 7520.2 was originally published in 2012, and this will be the first review of the Standard.
