NOTICE OF WITHDRAWAL OF CODE: RISSB CODE OF PRACTICE FOR ACCESSIBLE RAIL
All users of RISSB’s Code of Practice for Accessible Rail are hereby informed that this code of practice has now with been withdrawn effective immediately and should no longer be referred to.
Reasons for withdrawal are as follows:
a) The COP was based on a previous tranche of exemptions to the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport (DSAPT) granted to the Australian Rail Industry (represented by the ARA) by the Human Rights Commission which are no longer in force, and,
b) A new tranche of exemptions have been granted by the Human Rights Commission to the Australian Rail Industry which may differ in content from the original tranche upon which the RISSB COP was based.
Therefore, compliance to RISSB’s COP may no longer be a means of complying with the requirements the DSAPT as modified by the exemptions granted by the Human Rights Commission. Members should inform themselves of the newly-approved exemptions (available here: https://www.humanrights.gov.au/australasian-railway-association-ara) and comply with the DSAPT accordingly.
The relevant RISSB Standing Committee will consider whether the RISSB COP should be updated to reflect the new exemptions, or whether it should be permanently withdrawn. RISSB Members with a view on this issue are invited to submit their views to CEO RISSB Paul Daly email@example.com no later than 1 Feb 2016.
