RISSB ACKNOWLEDGES FORMER ARA CEO – BRYAN NYE OAM

RISSB Chairman Tony Drake, the RISSB Board, CEO Paul Daly and RISSB staff are saddened at the passing of former ARA CEO, Bryan Nye OAM. Bryan headed the ARA from 2003 until his retirement in 2015 and was a driving force in the establishment of RISSB.

Bryan had a passion for safety and early in his tenure as CEO of ARA saw a need to find ways to improve safety in the rail industry.

To give this effect, in 2003, Bryan established the Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (which was known as the CMC until 2007), guiding the industry to harmonise practices, establish national standards and improve dialogue on safety issues. A key element of the establishment of RISSB, driven by Bryan, was the securing of funding from the governments of Australia to support this initiative – funding that RISSB continues to receive today.

Bryan was the inaugural Chairman of RISSB and remained in the role until 2010 when an Independent Chairman was appointed. Thereafter he remained on the Board as a Director until his retirement.

As an independent rail industry Member organisation, the rail industry and RISSB owe a significant debt of gratitude to Bryan for his passion and vision in safety.

Our thoughts are with his wife Claudia, his children Aaron and Naomi and his seven grandchildren.

Vale Bryan and thank you for your leadership and inspiration.

Tony Drake
Chairman RISSB.
