Rail Digital Engineering Standard Pre Release Webinar
Digital engineering is fast becoming world’s best practice in the plan, design, and build stages of civil projects. To the rail industry this offers a range of transformational benefits across the full asset lifecycle of rail infrastructure projects, through the use of digital technologies and optimised ways of working.
RISSB, in conjunction with subject matter experts around Australia, have
been working on the first dedicated Australian digital engineering Standard for the rail industry. AS 7739 introduces and defines key digital engineering concepts and principles and will provide detailed information on how to build data management capability, and the overarching digital framework required for successful project implementation.
This new Standard will be entering the public consultation phase on 10 February and just prior to its release, author Simon Vaux and Standards Development Manager Cris Fitzhardinge will be hosting an informative webinar exploring the Standard and discussing how it will drive harmonisation in the rail industry.
The webinar will be held on Wednesday, 9 February 2022 and can be attended by anyone with an interest in digital engineering.

Level crossings are complex interfaces for the railway, one with significant safety considerations. Grade separation is the most reliable solution but it is not always possible. There is a perpetual search by rail companies to find workable ways to make level crossings safer and technology developments continue to open up possibilities.
At the end of February RISSB will host a hackathon to explore how up to the minute technology might be able to contribute, or might be able to trigger new ideas.
Invitees to the hackathon come from all sectors of the railway, other industries, technology suppliers and are generally not the usual suspects.
We’ll keep you updated as that work progresses for this safety critical aspect of our industry.
