The public consultation phase has now closed with a number of submissions made. The Development Group met to discuss the submissions and whether changes are required to the Standard.

An independent review of AS 7666 is also being carried out, with the draft report due in the coming weeks.

New Dates For Face To Face Training

We've just released new dates for our face to face training.

Our next Derailment Investigation and Analysis Workshop will be offered on  18-20 July at Chullora (NSW). 

This 3-day workshop provides participants with an understanding of the principles, methods and requirements for investigating derailments.

Attend to learn about:

* Theories of derailment
* Regulatory requirements
* Derailment report submissions
* The true cost of derailments to an organisation
* Infrastructure derailment triggers
* Operations derailment triggers
* How human factors contributes to derailments
* Wheel rail interface issues
* Turnout and yard derailments.

Our next Investigate Rail Safety Incidents course will be held in Western Australia on 12-15 September 2022.

The aim of this 4 day course is to teach attendees how to conduct and document any investigation into a railway safety incident. It builds on industry best practice and promotes a just culture approach for investigations. Attendees will learn about:

* Regulatory requirements for rail safety investigations
* Causes of rail safety incidents
* Rail safety investigation types
* Planning the investigation
* Categories of evidence.

Foundational Online Training

Late last year we launched Learning Express  offering the rail industry foundational courses in:

Introduction to Rail Safety
Fundamentals of Risk Management
Rail Safety Workers Obligations

These courses are perfect for new staff who will be working in the rail corridor particularly on or near rail tracks. The courses are offered 24/7 enabling new employees the ability to access courses from any computer at a time convenient to them.

We also offer an online Safety Critical Communications for Protection Officers course which builds on TLIF0008 - Apply safety critical communications in the rail environment and has been developed to address the unique learning needs of Protection Officers.

Site Visits For Horizons Program 4.0

In a major initiative for H4.0, optional site visits have been offered in Melbourne (six options including the MTM Driving Simulator, Downer HCMT maintenance facility, Yarra Trams Preston Depot, Deakin Uni VR, V/Line asset management and Melbourne Metro).

In Brisbane, there are six site visits on offer with around 60 people attending. The visits are to Aurizon (operations), QR (rollingstock maintenance and operations), Cross River Rail and QUT’s National Battery Testing Centre.  

Many thanks to the various organisations who have hosted these site visits – we know they take a lot of organising and resources – the feedback has been fantastic.
