Nearly 30 organisations were represented at the SPAD/LRTAE Group meeting held on 30 October 2020. The meeting heard from light rail operators about LRTAEs and ONRSR also provided further information and the national rail safety data strategy and changes for SPAD and LRTAE reporting. The SPAD/LRTAE Group is proposing to progress a number of new projects relating to Risk Triggered Commentary and Technology / New Infrastructure.
We've received strong interest in next year's Horizons Program 3.0 following its official launch last week at our Rail Safety Conference.
With presenters such as Steve Sammartino planning to return for a third time, it's no wonder interest in the program has not only come from Australia, but is coming from as far afield as Sweden!
About Horizons Program 3.0
The Horizons Program is a 7 month professional development program for emerging leaders in the rail industry. Participants will be taken on a practical professional journey, growing their knowledge of cutting-edge technology and developing an innovation mindset that will help position your business as a business of the future.
If you have a direct report that would benefit from this career defining opportunity, nominate them to attend by downloading and completing a nomination form. We're accepting nominations right up until Friday, 4 December.
For information about the Horizons Program 3.0 including how to nominate someone, please go to the Horizons page on RISSB's website.
To discuss a potential candidate's suitability, please contact Phil Allan via email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Horizons 1.0 and 2.0 participants have provided feedback on areas in which they could benefit in terms of skills development. These included the gaps they saw in their development, barriers to skills development and how courses should be delivered. This is being discussed within RISSB and it is likely the Horizons Program 3.0 will incorporate some of the issues raised.
Next week's webinar guest presenter is Owen Thomas from Western Australia's Public Transport Authority who will be discussing the METRONET program of work.
The single largest investment in public transport that Perth has seen, METRONET is a job-creating program that will positively change how people live and travel in Perth. With approximately 72 kilometres of new passenger rail and up to 18 new stations, METRONET is a catalyst to turn over 5,000 hectares of land around new stations to desirable places for investment in housing, jobs and services for growing communities.
The webinar will start at 12PM (AEDT) on Tuesday, 10 November 2020.

The Development Group met online for the first time last week to discuss the objective and scope of the new document. The draft is currently in its final stages and we are hopeful that this will be presented for public consultation late November.
Wheel Defects Code of Practice
This document is currently progressing through approvals, as the Development Group has completed its work. The Code of Practice is well regarded by industry as a tool for in service/field inspection of rolling stock wheels and we hope to publish it in early December.
Each week we'll showcase a publication in our 2020 / 2021 work plan that we will be progressing.
AS 7639 Track Structure & Support Systems
This document sets out the requirements for ensuring that track structure and support systems are safe and fit for purpose. The Standard developed in 2013 specifies functional and design requirements, approved configurations, and inspection, monitoring and maintenance of track structure and support systems used in Australia. This publication is set to undergo a formal review.
