The purpose of this Guideline is to provide information regarding good practices that allow a consistent national approach for Protection Officer roles, and to assist organisations in the recruiting, training, development and management of Protection Officers.

The scope of this guideline includes recruiting, training, developing and managing Protection Officers within the Australian Railway Industry.

This guideline relates to all Protection Officers irrespective of employment status. This includes Protection Officers engaged in full-time or part-time capacities by the Rail Infrastructure Manager (RIM), as well as those working on external contract.
