The document recognises the importance of a structured approach to human factors integration through the application of appropriate knowledge, processes, and techniques, in order to enhance both safety and overall system performance.
This Standard provides a consistent approach to the management of light rail vehicle movements within a light rail network and specifies the minimum requirements for design, interpretation and use of visual driver cues and signalling systems that permit the safe movement of light rail vehicles in light rail networks. This includes:
- Line of sight operation
- Pavement markings or stud markings
- Traffic signals
- Light rail signals
- Other indicators.
The objective of this Standard is to provide interoperability principles that guide rail transport operators (RTO), including rolling stock operators (RSO) and rail infrastructure managers (RIM), and their third-party organizations towards improving interoperability within the Australian railway industry.
The purpose of this Code of Practice (CoP) is to provide rail transport operators (RTO) a consistent approach to the development and maintenance of network rules.
The scope includes guidance on how to:
- Adopt the Australian Harmonised Network Rules
- Facilitate the development of network rules
- Adopt a risk management approach to development and management of network rules
- Maintain network rules
- Change a network rule
- Ensure the skills and knowledge of persons writing network rules.
